COMPLETED PROJECTS

28-29 Church Road, Bamber Bridge
Houses

28 and 29 Church Road are two traditional stone houses, built in circa 1834.

This required a full refurbishment from felt, batten and retile the roofs, internal plastering, central heating, rewires, fitting new bathrooms and kitchens, new floors, chimney removal, replacement doors and windows and a complete internal decoration.

The interior design was pre planned with carpets, curtains and soft furnishings, furniture and kitchenware all coordinated to create an executive living space.

This property has been let to executive engineers overseeing or progressing major engineering contracts in the area.

29 Church road was built as a Mill Manager’s house and the cottage  (no 28) was probably built for the servants. It is rumoured that there was a stairway from 28 to 29. The Manager kept horses on land behind the house in much the same way as a modern manager would have his car. At some point in the past there was a public house on the adjacent land and a brewery, which would also have stables and horses. This is why we called the road we created ‘Church Mews’ because of the stables, because it leads off Church Road and the proximity to St Saviour’s Church.

29 Church was also used as the curate’s house for St Saviour’s Church.

Church Road was part of the main North/South A6 route prior to opening the Preston bypass (M6). Then it was very busy. Now it is a quiet cul de sac and a Conservation Area
